Feud claims girls’ lives

MARDAN, July 1: A family feud claimed lives of two girls including a minor in the Mala Dhery area on Friday.

Quoting FIR, the officials of Chora police said Bahadar Sher along with his two sons, Ghani Khan and Ali Khan, entered his brother Ameer Bahadar’s house and opened indiscriminate firing killing the latter’s daughter, Zarish, 8, and daughter-in-law, Pogmay, 17, after exchanging hot words with him.

However, it was reportedly said the victim Pogmay was fiancée of Ghani Khan and their engagement might be a cause of dispute between the two families.

The police lodged FIR against the father and two sons on the complaint of Mohammad Arif, brother of the victim Zarish.—Correspondent

Traders hold demo

PESHAWAR, July 1: Dozens of traders on Friday held a protest demonstration on Sher Shah Suri Road against the encroachments in Saddar and Board Bazaars, demanding prompt action against the encroachers.

The traders gathered outside Peshawar press club to draw attention of the relevant officials towards the growing encroachments alongside Peshawar Board Canal and main Sadder Road.

They were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. According to protesters, the encroachments alongside the railway track and main Board Bazaar have caused traffic problems for pedestrians and motorists.

They demanded prompt measures against the encroachments to ease miseries of pedestrians and ensure smooth flow of traffic in the busy areas.—Bureau Report

Ensuring stability

PESHAWAR, July 1: Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has said despite many difficulties, the government is following a concrete action plan to ensure stability and eradicate extremism from the society.

This he said while talking to MPAs Mohammad Anwar Khan advocate and Badshah Saleh from Upper Dir, who called on him at Governor House on Friday. The governor said the security and safety of the people was the top most priority of the government and all possible steps would be taken to achieve the desired goals.

Referring to various points raised by the MPAs, the governor said, “We fully realise the difficulties, which the people of this highly remote and far-flung area are facing and concrete steps are underway to ensure security as well their socio-economic well-being”.—Bureau Report

Fata Olympic Association

PESHAWAR, July 1: Members of the Fata Karate Association on Friday held a protest demonstration against Fata Olympic Association for ‘selecting’ its office-bearers instead of electing them.

They also demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor to take notice of such violations and ensure holding of elections on the seats.

The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the nomination of some office-bearers and demanded the Fata Olympic Association members be appointed through election.—Bureau Report

Gas production bonus

KARAK, July 1: The people of Banda Daud Shah tehsil have demanded that the production amount bonus should be utilised on the uplift of the natural resource-producing tehsil.

This was demanded by the district general secretary of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Rafiullah Khattak while addressing a protest gathering at Khurram and a protest sit-in in front of the DCO office here on Friday. He threatened that the people of Banda Daud Shah knew how to get their rights.

The people of Banda Daud Shah held protest gathering at Khurram and later proceeded to district headquarters in vehicular processions to stage sit-in before the DCO office.—Correspondent

Safe haven

PESHAWAR, July 1: The abandoned camp of Afghan refugees along the Matani-Adezai road has become save heaven for the anti-social elements, police sources said.

“We have confirmed reports that the criminals, particularly the terrorists used to hide in the abandoned camp of refugees and carry out attacks on police and the anti-Taliban volunteers,” an official of the rural circle said.

He said the miscreants disappeared from the camp soon after occurrence of any untoward incident.

DSP Sajjad Khan also confirmed the reports and said he had ordered bulldosing the remains of the houses. “The refugees have taken away the wooden planks and gates of their houses but the walls are still intact,” he said.—Bureau Report
