
KOHAT: The Awami National Party claimed on Sunday that provincial autonomy was made possible due to the long ideological struggle of Bacha Khan and Khan Adul Ghaffar Khan.
Addressing a function to celebrate the transfer of autonomy to provinces here, MNA Khursheed Begum and MPA Musarat Shafi advocate said that the ANP had achieved the goal within three years whereas other big parties could not gain it in 62 years. The district ANP president, Inayatullah Qureshi, secretary general, Masood Khalil and local leader Saeed Shah Bokahri also participated in the function and highlighted the sacrifices of the party made for democracy.
MNA Khursheed Begum said that the 13 members of the ANP in the national assembly had raised voice for the provincial autonomy.
She said that after the autonomy Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would get 50 per cent share from oil and gas royalty, adding, a plan was underway for the construction of an oil refinery in Kohat which would change the future of the district.
She presented a resolution demanding transfer of the incumbent vice-chancellor of the Kohat University of Science and Technology who ordered brutal use of police force against the peaceful protest by the students. It was unanimously passed. She alleged that class-IV employees which must be strictly appointed from the local station had been brought from other areas by the VC Nasir Jamal Khattak which was sheer injustice with the local jobless people.
PESHAWAR: Acting central president of Awami National Party Senator Haji Adil has said that around 2.5 million people across the country have become new members of the party.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, he said that out of 2.5 million, 1.8 million were in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Leadership of the ANP from across the country including Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan were present during the press conference.
The membership drive commenced from April 15 across the country would continue till July 15, he said. He further said that around 2.5 million people had registered their names as party members.
At the completion of membership drive, party elections would be held at district and central levels in different phases, he further said.
Mr Adil expressed satisfaction over the membership campaign and hoped that in the coming days more people would get their names enrolled in the list of the party.
He said that the federal government would be approached through a jirga to pay arrears of net hydel profit worth Rs225 billion.
He said that after the 18th Amendment and NFC award the province had been empowered economically and that no government in future could reduce 56 per cent share of the provinces in the NFC award.
