KARACHI, July 5: The home department has finalised the modalities for formally launching a community watch project in collaboration with the Cantonment Board Clifton, Defence Housing Authority and Defence Residents Association.
This was stated by the home ministry’s consultant on planning policy, public relations and home affairs, Sharfuddin Memon, while giving a briefing over implementation of the plan to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Waseem Ahmed and others at a meeting on Tuesday.
Mr Memon said the public-private partnership project, which would run as a pilot project under the supervision of the home ministry’s complaint centre, would facilitate community interaction to help control crime in Defence and adjoining areas. It would be implemented later in other parts of the city, he added.
Security cameras would be installed at sensitive areas as well as entry and exit points for surveillance. The areas would be monitored round the clock at a control room being set up at Beach Avenue, he added.
Waseem Ahmed observed that the project would help uphold the rule of law.—PPI
