MQM delegation meets JI leader

KARACHI, July 13: A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) called on senior leader of the Jamaat-i-Islami Professor Ghafoor Ahmed on Tuesday.

According to an MQM press release, Syed Mustafa Kamal, Wasey Jalil and MPA Muzammil Qureshi met Prof Ghafoor at his residence and delivered him a goodwill message from MQM chief Altaf Hussain.

The meeting also discussed the overall political situation in the country with a specific reference to developments in Karachi.

The JI leader thanked the MQM delegation and appreciated Mr Hussain’s goodwill gesture. —Staff Reporter

Civic bodies told to resume work

KARACHI Commissioner Mohammad Hussain Syed has directed all deputy commissioners to call a meeting of district officers to ensure immediate coordination between police and district administrations in order to chalk out a better strategy on law and order in their respective areas.

The commissioner along with deputy commissioners visited various areas hit by recent violence, as well as Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar and Malir.

He noted that all officers, staff and resources of the defunct town administrations were now under the control of deputy commissioners.

The organisations engaged in municipal works should resume their assigned jobs, he said, adding that mechanical sweeping machinery was being brought to roads immediately while repair/maintenance of roads and streetlights was also being started.

He directed all civic bodies to continue using fuel, especially for ambulances, fire brigade and solid waste management vehicles, as the dues of fuel dealers outstanding against the defunct local governments would be cleared soon.—PPI

MBBS suppl exam on 19th

THE University of Karachi has announced that the MBBS second professional supplementary examination will commence on July 19.

A spokesman for the university said on Wednesday that papers would be conducted up to July 23, from 2pm to 5pm at the geography department.

Meanwhile, director of the KU evening programme Prof Dr Abuzar Wajidi has announced that all the candidates whose names have appeared on the merit list are advised to deposit their admission fee latest by July 15. A notification regarding the extended date has also been issued, he said in a statement.—Agencies
