ISLAMABAD, July 18: A resident of North Waziristan has lodged a complaint with Islamabad police seeking arrest of former CIA official for killing ordinary citizens under the garb of killing terrorists in tribal areas of the country. The complaint has been lodged by the relatives of the victims of a US drone attacks and called for trial of John A. Rizzo, a CIA official in Islamabad.This was stated by Mirza Shahzad Akbar, the lawyer for the relatives of victims of drone attack at a press conference, held here at National Press Club Monday.
“We have lodged the complaint so that international arrest warrants be issued for John A. Rizzo, a CIA official,” Mr Akbar said. He in his complaint called upon the Interpol and the United States to enforce an arrest warrant against Rizzo, whom it says was until recently general counsel to the CIA.
Mr Akbar also said that he represented Karim Khan, who is seeking $500 million in compensation from the CIA for the death of his 16 year-old son and a younger brother.
Mr Khan said that the drone strikes cannot be justified. “Those who are carrying out these attacks are enemies of Islam and humanity as they are killing innocent men, women and children,” he said.
Meanwhile, responding to the queries of media persons, Shazad Akbar advocate said that he considered himself as a legal campaigner in Pakistan against the CIA, and was executing a national duty for the people of the country against attacks by the superpower.
He said that Rizzo conspired to wage a war of aggression, committed murder and various other crimes, including crimes against humanity.
The complainant also said that the drone war, was claimed to target Taliban and Al-Qaeda “Rizzo worked with the agency as one of their legal counsels from 1970s and was in that position at the time of the initial attacks on Pakistan sovereign territory (in 2004),” it said.
However, replying to a question Mr Akbar was pessimist regarding cooperation from the authorities and said, “Little hope is expected from Pakistani authorities regarding issuance of arrest warrant, as they too are part of the conspiracy,” Mr Akbar said adding that such reference have been highlighted in the wikileaks too that Pakistani authorities cooperated on drone attacks.
