LAHORE: Punjab government will introduce solar water pump technology for the benefit of the farming community.

This was stated by Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa while addressing a special meeting regarding Kharif crop here on Monday.

The Provincial Secretaries of Irrigation, Agriculture, Livestock as well as senior officers of PAMPCO were also present on the occasion.

He said that the pumps would be operated through solar energy and would provide abundant water for irrigation purposes free of cost resulting increase in agri-production.

Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa said that effective measures were being taken for the benefit of farmers which included provision of water as well as its supply at the tail ends of canals.

He stressed upon PMI unit of irrigation department to ensure accuracy of water gauges as well as pay special attention to the brick lining and protection of the banks of canals during monsoon season.

He directed that flow of water in canals should be updated on daily basis on the website of irrigation department.

The Senior Advisor directed that stern action would be taken against the elements involved in water theft.

He said that digital technology including SMS service and internet should be fully utilized for the guidance of farmers.
