ISLAMABAD: Aqeel Khan won the first Aisam-ul-Haq Masters Tennis Championship, defeating his younger brother Jalil Khan at the PTF Complex here on Friday.

“I played better tennis right from the start of the game and won the first set without any resistance,” Aqeel told Dawn after winning the final 6-0, 7-6(3).

Aqeel played a number of down the line winners and backhand shots during the first set, giving a tough time to the rival.

The winner said he was on the verge of winning the second set 3-0, but Jalil came back hard, winning few crucial points.

However, he maintained that his composure helped him lift the trophy.

Pakistan Tennis Federation vice-president Irshad Bhatti awarded Rs 110,000 to Aqeel and Rs 55,000 to Jalil.

About his future plans, Aqeel said, “I will take rest in Ramazan. After that, I will participate in an international event in Kuwait,” he contended.
