KARACHI: Pakistan’s No 1 squash player Aamir Atlas Khan has said that he is very happy to be a part of the Pakistan team which will feature in the World Team Championship next month in Germany.
Aamir Atlas was earlier ruled out of the team for the prestigious event as the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) conducted trials for the World Team Championship at a time when he was serving a six-month ban.
“I am delighted that the federation has included me in the team. It has always been my top priority to represent my country and bring laurels for it,” Aamir said.
He was banned by the federation in January this year for having a spat with coach Jansher Khan.
Aamir’s ban had to expire on July 15 and the federation conducted trials only a week before the expiry of his ban and supposedly selected the final squad for the World Team event.
Yasir Butt, Nasir Iqbal, Hamzah Bohkari and Waqar Mehboob were selected. The due date for submission of the team names to the World Squash Federation was July 25.
But Aamir performed brilliantly in the CIMB Malaysian Championship where he defeated World No 10 Malaysian Mohammad Azlan Iskandar and World No 17 Cameron Pilley of Australia to reach the five-star event final only to be beaten by World No 6 Gregory Gaultier in the summit clash.—PPI
