QUETTA: In his statement recorded to the Balochistan High Court (BHC) regarding the Nawab Akbar Bugti killing case on Wednesday, Director Crime Branch said that the province’s chief secretary stopped him from recording statements from or arresting the then-chief minister and Balochistan’s home minister of the time, DawnNews reported.
A two-member bench of the BHC headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Issa conducted the case’s hearing.
Justice Issa inquired Director Crime Branch Naeem Kakar that although five months had passed, no statement had been recorded nor had any criminal been arrested. Responding to the query, Mr Kakar told the court that Balochistan’s Chief Secretary had asked him not to record any statements from former chief minister Jam Yousuf and former provincial home minister Shoaib Nosherwani. Mr Kakar also said that the chief secretary had prevented the two former provincial officials from being arrested.
On which, Justice Issa told Mr Kakar that the chief secretary had no power to stop director crime branch.
Mr Kakar also told the court that a red warrant had been issued for Dera Bugti’s then- district coordination officer Abdul Samad.
During the hearing, the deputy attorney general told the court that the federation had received the Balochistan government’s letter regarding the arrests.
