Hidden by the Native Jetty Bridge, the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir is one of the famous temples in Karachi frequented by the Hindu community. Although devoted to the deity Maha Lakshmi, the temple is a sanctuary to statues of Hanuman, and Saii Baba of Shirdi as well. Hindus from all over Karachi come to the temple to pray and make offerings to the gods, with a dip in the waters of the Arabian Sea to cleanse them of their sins.
Come Saa’wan (monsoon) season, the temple is filled with women who fast, hoping for the well being and long lives of their husbands. Their pooja thalis carrying an assortment of knick knacks symbolising them to be married include sindoor (red powder dye put in hair to symbolise a married woman), bangles, flowers, milk, water, jewellery, rice, an oil lamp and their mannats. Once the prayers are done, these items are cast away in the water, with the hope “long lives my better half”. – Text and photos by Anahita Hashmani

It certainly shows the culture of Pakistani HIndus. I liked her, only thing was missing her jewelery.
Thanks DAWN for reviving OUR culture.
Great work keep it up
I appreciate Dawn News, it shows the Dawn News impartiallity that minorities deserve to be couraged equally.
The word comes to my mind, 'openminded,' when we're making circles we must learn to chalk them lightly, always leaving a little gap through which our thoughts can flow out and those of others flow freely in.
Beautiful!
Dawn please keep up with these kind of articles to spread awareness that Pakistan is not all about Islam there are others race and religion that makes up Pakistan. Good Work
Great to see pictures of a temple in Pakistan. People should have the freedom to follow whatever religion they believe in. Thanks Anahita Hashmani for giving us the opportunity to see these lovely images. Dawn should keep on posting similar pictures/articles about minorities in Pakistan to raise awareness and increase tolerance.
Commendable efforts from Dawn to lessen the cultural and religious divides. I wish more media from this region follows suite.
My name is Ravi and i am from Houston, TX . I am ardent lover of Dawn as they are excellent example of media and communication. I have been seeing consistent affrods to bring different culture, religion and true story of what is all going on. Inspite of whatever contry is facing the problem. DAWN standing strong. I just love you being what you all team doing and keep doing this work may be you will bring the humanity closer.
Really good. Another example to prove that a religion is not confined to a specific geography. Love should flow with the religion but not hatred. No religion preaches hatred, it is we humans develop hatred with other in the name of religion. Because of few ill minded preachers of the religion the youth followers also develop hatred.
One should ever remember that religion is for harmony and not hatred.
beautiful!!!! Masha-Allah
Appreciate DAWN's efforts!
