ISLAMABAD, Aug 25: The Chinese government will provide over $600 million for flood-affected people in the country.

A statement issued here on Thursday by the BISP said the Chinese authorities agreed to provide the amount during a meeting with Federal Minister and Chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme, Farzana Raja, who is currently visiting Beijing.

The statement said the Chinese vice minister for human resources and social security, Hu Xiaoyi, showed interest in the proposal for employing labour trained by BISP under its Waseela Rozgar in Chinese firms in Pakistan and abroad.

He agreed to explore possibilities of collaboration between BISP and the ministry of human resources and social security in the field of social health insurance.

The chairperson informed the Chinese minister about several initiatives of BISP and expressed her readiness to share experiences with China.

The statement said Ms Raja also met Chinese Minister for Civil Affairs Luo Pingfei and discussed with him prospects of cooperation in the social sector.

Mr Pingfei lauded the efforts of BISP and said that the two countries should share their experiences in the field of social safety.

He stressed the need for furthering collaboration in social development.
