I agree how can anyone know what it is to be part of our society when they've never lived in pakistan. Truth be told you go abroad and all pakistani 'aunties and uncles' are the same as back home. Infact worse. In pakistan some of us have actually progressed from the stereotypes.

Right you are Waqas, but see the woman talks about Pakistani-Americans (thats a mixed id if you can get beyond the hyphenation). So in your parable its like Kawa-Hans cross who can do both the "chaals" equally well. If you did ever travel or lived abroad, you would understand but if you haven't then quiet a shame. People will and need to absorb cultures of the places they live in or move in. Mind you, I didnt say cultures need to absorb people. If you are still adamant about being a "kawa", I was wondering if you go to your office and daily life wearing a shalwar kameez.

Was that what your religion asked you to do- morally police others and tell them to get an identity. Perhaps you need to realize that a Muslim is not your id to define, it is perhaps the most demographically diverse religion

Assalamualaikum All, I don't know why we are so much negative in our approach. Why we muslims wasting our precious time proving to the west that we are not terrorist, they knows it better. Instead we should be practicing our religion consistently with open heart and leaves the rest on ALLAH.

i was really impressed with the concept, the approach and the message it portrayed. however, the comment thread . Whats the religious, moral and ethical wrong in using the word lingerie. It also re-emphasises the fact that its not only the western crowd that needs to be addressed but also the people here to appreciate such acts and support them, do away with the close-minded approach. If you dont like it, then let it go. Basing, rather ridiculing any thing on basis of religion is just absurd.

I think the author was using the "laundry/lingerie" in an allegorical sense. I don't want to get drawn into the usual "us and you" syndrome, but Mr.Nadeem, I think your assessment is little erroneous. You will never be able to come to any conclusions anyway, till you actually travel across and find out for yourself, will you ?

She is not representing you nor your land. She is portraying the struggles and complexities in the life of women of Pakistani origin in the US. You may criticize the quality of her work but she has every right in the world to pursue this.
