WASHINGTON: South Korea's president, Lee Myung-bak, will make an official state visit to the White House on Oct. 13 for talks with US President Barack Obama that are expected to include a pending trade deal.

A White House statement on Tuesday said the two leaders are expected to discuss a range of economic and security issues and review progress made in connection with a US-South Korea free trade agreement.

The trade agreement and similar deals with Panama and Colombia have been long stalled in Washington and both Obama and Republicans in the US Congress want to work out the final details for passage.

Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, are to host Lee and his wife at a formal White House state dinner on Oct, 13.
