PESHAWAR, Sept 17: The teachers of local government schools staged a protest demonstration here on Saturday against police for their failure to arrest the killers of their colleague.

Waheedullah, a resident of Daudzai, was killed by unidentified assailants on Sher Shah Suri Road near Sunehri Masjid on September 5.

The demonstrators held banners and placards inscribed with slogans for early arrest of the teacher’s killers. They also shouted slogans against police.

Aslam Khan and Muzamil Khan, of Muttahida Mahaz Asatiza, said Waheedullah was gunned down in a busy commercial area in broad daylight but police failed to arrest the killers.

They said the teacher was killed not away from West Cantonment and Gulberg police stations but their personnel didn’t chase the killers.

Aslam and Muzamil also complained that their repeated requests to police for the arrest of the killers had so far fallen on deaf ears.

They said police had established checkpoints on all city roads but in their presence, escape of the killers was beyond their understanding.

They regretted that police were bound by duty to protect public life and property but had miserably failed to do so.

The two said the slain teacher had no enmity with anyone.

They warned that if the police’s disinterest in arresting Waheedullah’s killers continued, teachers of local government schools would boycott classes and take to the streets.

When contacted, the relevant investigation officer said police had got some important clues and the killers would be arrested soon.

He said the teacher was innocent but was mistakenly killed by attackers, who mistook him for another.

The investigation officer said the slain teacher’s father and colleagues had been approached but they had yet to name names in the case.
