UET budget approved

LAHORE, Sept 17: The University of Engineering and Technology Senate on Saturday approved the recurring and development budget for the year 2011-12 amounting to Rs2.328 billion and Rs692.446 million, respectively.

The Senate meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Lt-Gen Muhammad Akram (retired) on behalf of chancellor/Punjab governor also approved teachers’ eligibility criteria and different statutes.

The Senate was told that the Higher Education Commission had kept pending eligibility criteria for the selection of an associate professor and a professor till 2013.

The eligibility criteria required that a faculty member with a four-year teaching experience after completing PhD should be appointed an associate professor and a faculty member having an eight-year post-PhD teaching experience a professor.

The Senate amended statutes that a faculty member in Grade 21 or on Tenure Track could also be appointed as Professor Emeritus, which was earlier meant only for Grade-22 faculty members. It also approved statutes for the smooth functioning of its Kala Shah Kaku campus.

The vice chancellor presented an annual report of the university and informed the Senate members that the university’s ranking had improved from 91st to 61st among engineering universities in Asia, while the new ranking at the international level was yet to be made.

According to last year ranking, he said, the UET was at 281st number among engineering institutions in the world.

He also briefed the Senate about academic, research activities and development projects of the university.

ADMISSION DATE: The UET has extended date for admission to its undergraduate programmes to Sept 22 owing to delay in the provision of result cards to the candidates.

Meanwhile, the candidates, who got their result cards, could also submit their forms on Sunday as the varsity offices will remain open. — Staff Reporter
