LAHORE: The Executive Board of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) after a long discussion has empowered chief selector Hanif Khan to announce the probables for the training camp for next month’s tour of Australia.

The Executive Board which met here on Friday finished its meeting late in the night, empowering Hanif Khan to announce the names of the probables on Saturday for the training camp, which will be held in Islamabad from Oct 1 for the tour of Australia during which Pakistan have to play a three-nation tournament.

Besides Pakistan and Australia, India is the third team of the contest.

Sources told Dawn that the intensive discussion was held on the matter whether to include seniors or not for the next assignments before it was decided that Hanif was the best judge to pick the probables.

However, it is likely that two of the three senior players Rehan Butt, Sohail Abbas and Salman Akbar, who were not part of this month’s first Asian Champions Trophy, held in China, will stage a comeback.

The chances of Rehan Butt are slim as junior strikers are performing well.

Salman and Sohail are likely to be included as young goalkeeper Imran Shah did not perform well at the Asian Champions Trophy. Similary, Pakistan’s short corners were weak due to Sohail’s absence.

The meeting was scheduled to be held at 12noon but was delayed till 6pm because flights of some out of station members were late.
