NEW YORK: Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said here on Sunday that the Haqqani group that the US was now charging with attacks on the American embassy in Kabul had been CIA’s “blue-eyed boy” for many years.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera TV, she said: “If we talk about links, I am sure the CIA also has links with many terrorist organisations around the world, by which we mean intelligence links,” she said.

“And this particular network, which (the United States) continues to talk about, is a network which was the blue-eyed boy of the CIA itself for many years.”

Asked about US Admiral Mike Mullen’s statement that the Haqqani group “acts as a veritable arm” of ISI, the foreign minister said: “It is something that goes very, very unappreciated on our side. This is unsubstantiated. No evidence has been shared with us.” Partners and allies, she said, did not talk to each other through public statements.

Pakistan had taken up the matter with the United States, but the spate of hostile statements coming from senior US officials meant that Washington had taken a policy decision. If that was the case then “We have the right to make our own decision.”

Ms Khar went to say that scapegoating and blame games would be of no help. Pakistan wants to be a US partner. “I just hope that we’ll be given a chance to cooperate with each other and the doors will remain open —because statements like this are pretty much close to shutting those doors,” she added.

Replying to a question, Ms Khar said the drone attacks not only violated Pakistan’s sovereignty, they were also counter-productive, and angered the people of Pakistan. “I think we must not be tested more than we have the ability to bear,” she added.

COMMENTS

  1. On the other hand.. Americans are saying, "we should CUT OFF the aid to Pakistan.. why should we give them our tax dollars.. they were always our enemy". None of them know, There was not a single suicide bombing in Pakistan before 9/11.. it simply did not exist in Pakistan! …

  2. Well done you have raised our head high and higher. A bravo women A tit for tat. we stand united on any threatening agenda of the USA.Nation always grow and grow on the basis of their sovereignty

  3. Pakistan & India both need leaders like her with that bold attitude and stability in securing the sovereignty of the country.

  4. She deserves appreciation. Bold lady. Two thumbs up for such brave statments. Pakistan can only going towards success if they kick out american aid and eridicate american roots frm their soil.

  5. Let Pakistan stand on its own two feet and face eye to eye to the world, i hope n pray that it becomes a true islamic state…and let Mr. America concentrate on its internal affairs rather than interfering in other countries matters in the name of "terror".

  6. Pakistani leaders are greedy and crypt, Just like Americans. They both are destroying their own countries for quick personal gains! Neither one of looking in to the feature of their nation! Just watch the Avatar movie and u will understand that Wall Street Companies making money with American Blood and the tax payer money! And the war most goes on! And I think Pakistan is next in line!

  7. Finally someone in Pakistan with guts to speak. Mrs. KHAR FOR PRESIDENT asap.

    • I appreciate her not breaking down.. but she is only saying what she has been TOLD TO SAY. Right now, we need an experienced person in her position (she is just a fresh graduate with her degree in hotel management.. I can't understand how Pakistanis fill up important positions in the gov't). No offense to her, I like her, but this position especially at a time like this, calls for a specialist in this field. Anyway, Pakistan can say whatever they want to say, USA will get their way.. even today, they killed 3. RIGHT NOW: ALL HINA KHAR should be saying is: THERE WERE NOT SUICIDE BOMBINGS IN PAKISTAN B4 9/11. It's because we are USA's ALLY, OUR COUNTRY IS IN RUINS & WE'VE SUFFERED SO MUCH! … She should only repeat this statement..as should all Pakistanis. It's the truth..and we should tell it like it is!

  8. hats off to your courage Hina for speaking all that so much loud and clear. We must realize the reality now and the time has come to show US our real worth. Its not at all any easy to suppress us too like the recent victims of US assault.

  9. Pakistani Govt. official should be taken a hard and meaningful step against statement of USA general. we have beard more human and financially losses then any country of the world in this USA war. we should be withdrawed from this war. USA has no friend. they only know their own benefit. only use the country and accupy on its resources.

  10. Ms. Khar is dodging the question: Is the Haqqani Grtoup " a veritable arm of the ISI", yes or no? We would all appreciate a straight answer, but instead we get "This is unsubstantiated, No evidence has been shared with us"! It's not like she couldn't just ask various ministers and generals who are in the know.

  11. Pakistan is helping haqqani. So what? Everyone knows that. USA should attack these terrorists in Pakistan by themselves. That way world will be safe. Our Pakistani army is too weak. Let USA attack haqqani.

  12. I don't understand why our leaders are afraid of even making statements about the reality. Why they don't talk agressively about the drone attacks? This confirms some special permission.

  13. Emotional aside, all nations have write to protect their interests and stand up for their rights. But those nations which live day to day on loans and aids from donor nations, can surely bark at trees but can not see eye to eye to the donor nations. Everyone seems to recognize this fact but in a real world, would Pakistanis and the government be willing to live with the reality. This is the question that needs to be debated at national level.

  14. Pakistan's Foreign policy must be driven by actions not mere sloganeer. By actions i mean ; suspension in diplomatic relations followed by discontinuation of NATO supplies to Afghanistan. Cancellation of aid specifically CSF "Coalition Support Fund" and loans to IMF. Leaning towards China will not help. Pakistan should stand on its own feet.

  15. Pakistan wants to be a US partner. “I just hope that we’ll be given a chance to cooperate with each other and the doors will remain open?????????????????????????this para graph smells me the cowardness of our foreign policy

  16. its late reply to US but not too late…..

  17. carry on miss kher.all nation of pakistan will be with you.

  18. Pakistan should fight against Taliban and other sectarian/religious extremists, not for America, not for India, but for Pakistan itself!

  19. I just wish, America closes all its aid to Pakistan. At least we will be able to support the independence of our state and make decisions that are not good for USA but good for Pakistan. I am sure once free we will be able to stand proud as a nation and will be able to make our nation strong and healthy. All American stooges whether they are in politics or army should all be handed over to USA for them to keep and bear their burden. We need people who love Pakistan and only Pakistan and those who will watch its interests.

  20. Three cheers for Ms Khar.well said.

  21. Pakistan wants to be a US partner – Theres your problem. There no partners here. Only trades. What you gotta trade? Sovereignty anyone?

  22. She is right. Pakistan needs to be more agressive in its foreign policy.

  23. Hina, you are the best.
I like leaders who have guts to speak loud and clear.

  24. in my view we should take lesson from Islamic countries like Iran Egypt and Syria. we should understand now that usa is real problem of todays worlds.

  25. She is right. USA cannot force Pakistan to fight Taliban. If Taliban is a threat to USA, let them deal with it directly. Why Pakistan should become a mercenary in it ? Pakistan did a grave mistake by training the Taliban to fight the Russians ob behalf of USA. It should now choose its own course of action.

    • A balance analysis by an Indian! thanks.

    • The madam is right. Cancellation of aid will be more a blessing to Pakistan that will eliminate dependency,be innovative and productive and by using its own skill and resources will bring more employment, fulfillness and prosperity to Pakistan.

    • Ms. Khar is correct and I agree with Mr. Sharma's comments.

As long as Pakistan continues to receive massive aid, except such statements and demands from the US to continue. Suspension/cancellation of aid is a worthwhile idea, as it will force Pakistan to embark on a more self-sustaining and pragmatic domestic/foreign policies.
