GUJRANWALA: People of various localities on Monday staged a protest demonstration against power outage and burnt motorcycles, Gepco customer centre, police check post and a grid station.

The protesters blocked G.T road, Alam Chowk, Gondlanwala Chowk, Lohyanwala Chowk and other thoroughfares by burning tyres against prolonged power-cuts.

The protesters set ablaze Alam Chowk police check post and motorcycles. The mob also burnt Gepco customer centre and grid station in Alam Chowk after ransacking the official buildings.

The demonstrators threw stones on vehicles at G.T road and a Lahore-bound train.

DSP Model Town Abdul Qayyum Gondal, SHO Civil Lines Rana Afzal were also injured while trying to disperse the demonstrators. Police have to use teargas, fired in the air and used baton charge to pacify the mob.

The educational institutions, bazaars and markets remained closed during the protest in the city.
