KARACHI: The Supreme Court announced its verdict in the suo motu case on the security situation in Karachi on Thursday, DawnNews reported.

The ruling was read out by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

Chief Justice Iftikhar said that if target killings continued in Karachi, it would be difficult for the government to remain in power.

The apex court has also formed a committee to monitor the city's law and order situation.

Chief Justice Iftikhar further said that the Rangers told the court that the situation in Karachi was worse than that of Waziristan and that political parties were backing criminal elements operating in the city.

The verdict was lengthy and a copy of the full decision would be available on the Supreme Court's website.
