Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, who is also the Chancellor of the University of Karachi, conferred the degree on Senator Abdul Rehman Malik.

The degree has been awarded by the Syndicate of Karachi University in recognition of his “matchless services to the country in the war on terror and particularly in restoring peace to the citizens of Karachi.”

Rehman Malik expressed his resolve to come up to the expectations of the nation and serve the country in an effective manner.

He told the gathering that included the Vice-Chancellor, Pro- Vice-Chancellors and senior faculty of Karachi University that his father had advised him to always respect the teachers.

“I paid heed towards this advice and throughout my life I remained successful in every sphere,” he remarked.

Rehman Malik who did his Masters in Statistics in 1973 from the University of Karachi, said that at that time they all considered themselves as Pakistanis and that there was no Sindhi, Punjabi, Baloch, Pakhtoon and Mohajir.

He said that there is a need to foster the spirit of ‘Pakistaniat’ as they all are Pakistanis.

Rehman Malik said that today the honorary degree of Doctorate has been conferred on him in recognition of his services in the war on terror.

COMMENTS

  1. I hope the Chancellor of the university read all these comments and must regret what he has done.

  2. Hahaha….Nothing is credible in Pakistan,KU is also ours. Why n How RM?? Have u read Rehman Malik's connections Back in 90's. How he climbed up the ladder?? If this is the criterion for Degrees nd awards, then the Govt should try a NOBEL for his 90's work :)

  3. In my times, there was none but the Karachi University for the locals (Karachiites). Even the engineers getting graduated from NED were getting a degree from the KU until it got the university status so we didn't have a choice.
The new generation or atleast those who do get to degree level, do have a choice.
If Rehman Malik can get a Phd for peace then what is left? Maybe he'll soon be nominated for Nobel prize for peace.

  4. Very sad, KU lost the credibility

  5. People of various walk of life have criticized the Karachi University for awarding doctorate degree to Honourable Interior Minister of Pakistan for his contribution towards efforts taken to restore peace not only in “Piyari” (beloved) Karachi, but also acknowledging his endeavours for International peace, especially fighting against the “ terrorism in Pakistan-Afghanistan”, continuation of American policy of New World Order in the name of “War on Terror” and regional peace in South Asia and Middle East including efforts to quash uprising in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Everyone understands why he has been given this prestigious degree.

Could anyone in concerned authorities dared not to award PhD to Mr Malik? Could Prime Minister or even President, for the reasons best known to them, afford to keep him away from the position that he enjoys, especially having enough knowledge of his conduct even at the time of death of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, when she needed him at the most crucial time of her life that has left irreparable loss to Pakistan ? Is there another person of such qualities that he possesses in any political party of Pakistan? In other words Karachi University has accredited his inborn qualities that even surpass the value of PhD. Awarding PhD to Mr Malik is, indeed, in line with policy and acknowledgement of awarding “Sitara-e-Imtiaz to him by the Presidency.

  6. HA HA HA, THE KU IS CERTAINLY NOT IN THE RIGHT FRAME OF MIND

  7. This event marks the sad demise of educational credibility of Pakistan.

  8. That is why our education standard is not recognized outside Pak. Anyone can easily get a Phd, you just have to have the right connections.

  9. Why not give him a nishan-e-haider also and that too in his lifetime

  10. If we have the PhD’s like ‘Malik’, than we have only one option left to say “Pakistan ka Allah hee hafiz”.

  11. As a citizen of Paksitan, as a student having degree from KU only, I would like the Vice Chancellor of KU to share the exact goals achieved by Rehman Malik, what papers he wrote and what theory he gave to be eligible to receive this PhD.
There must be a proper justification for this & it must be shared with us.

  12. I thought only BABAR AWAN had the PhD.

  13. Himm wasn't Ansar Barni more deserving…

  14. Shame on you guys. He has performed creditably in an environment where all the dices were/are loaded against him. If you think you can do the job better, say so, else don't criticise.

  15. A Slap on the face of this nation. The most illiterate nation deserved Rehman Malik and now it went a step forward to cement this title by giving him this paper. Great work PPP and KU, this will definitely go down in history as a very memorable incident.

  16. Shame on KU vc and other officials. It seems blunder of century

  17. I believe I can blame only the Chancellor and vice chancellor for this act.

  18. I am afraid, we have become sick society! It requires millions of gallons of blood to uproot the sickness :(

  19. I have lost all the respect for KU. What a shame…

  20. What a joke? At least academic institutions should not be involved in such dirty political games otherwise these are losing their prestige.

  21. What a miserable state of affairs. When you thought pakistan has now hit its lowest point u are suddenly proved wrong with such event. This is a mockery of the people who work hard to gain a degree. Not only has this tarnished the reputation of KU but the moral standards of society as a whole too. Absolutely ridiculous and KU should be ashamed.

  22. Look at the vice chancellor quoting that malik was "INTELLIGENT", that line alone can be "the joke of the century".
Whats next then, MEERA getting a P.h.d in ENGLISH!!

  23. I think there is slight mistake in title. It should be 'Pieces' of Peace

  24. 'PhD for Peace'?
Where is the thesis that he submitted?
If it is honorary, then will we call him Doctor Rehman Malik? Was he so deserving that none others could match, neither Ansar Barni, nor Abdul Sattar Edhi? Is there any criteria set by KU?

At least I am happy to not have graduated from KU.

  25. there is no more merit left in KU credentials.

  26. I need just a degree for job, can KU provide me a degree.?
(No objection with title, i know they might have good title for such degrees),

  27. That is called degeneration of social and cultural order. And it is getting now specific to our country.

  28. Awarding an honrary Ph.D. to one of the most controversial politician of the country is a disgrce to the KU and quite sympotamtic of decaying standards of higher education under a government, which the Doctor Rehman Malik represents – no less no more!

  29. Of course, his drawing of similarities of Star Wars characters with the terrorists who attacked the PNS Mehran was really creative and notable. Also, he traced the social issue that plagues Karachi which resulted in the recent target killings by making us ignorant people realise how it's an agenda orchestrated by the wives and girlfriends to get rid of their partners. He should be granted a degree in Anthropology too, no?

  30. I wonder what will be the topic of his thesis?

  31. Could we please add this to the Joke of the century list?

  32. Someone who has not passed primary school…. only in a country called pakistan!!!!

  33. He is next in line for Nobel peace prize.

  34. He should also be given Noble Peace Prize

  35. People of Pakistan should hopeful that peace in Karachi last long.

  36. Hopefully, one day either all Pakistanis will be able to get an advanced degree from KU. I am 98% sure.

  37. What a joke and shame on us!!!

  38. Dilip (South Africa)

KU recognises Mr.Malik – great!!!! But poor OLD Mr.Edhi, who has toiled all his life – from providing free burial service to providing an ambulance service to assisting in natural disasters. Living a simple life but to date no recognition from the government or the universities. Why???

    • Rehman Malik and his party deserve Phd degrees in creating coalitions with other political parties. I bet they can make coalition BJP or US republicans if its in their interest. They are masters in coalitions.

    • Mr. Edhi should deserve Noble Prize. I am praying for him to get
      Noble Prize.

    • Because Edhi neither has proper contacts in the power corridors, nor has resolved 'some' of the national issues very amicably. Because as "The governor said that Mr Malik has resolved some of the national issues very amicably".

So let us wait till Mr. Edhi does some thing worth recognizing???
