KARACHI: Pakistani squash player Waqar Mehboob said on Wednesday that he would not waste his time and attention in appealing against a six-month ban imposed on him by the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) and he would rather focus his attention in training with his father Mehboob Khan.

“I played only one match and did my best to beat my opponent. The match was a five-set encounter but eventually I lost. I didn’t underperform and at one point I was 2/0 up.

"However, if the federation thinks that I should serve a ban then let it be. I am now focusing on improving my game and hoping that in years to come, I would perform well for my country,” Mehboob told PPI.

The nephew of squash legend Jansher Khan, Mehboob is serving a six-month ban along with cousin Aamir Atlas Khan and teammate Yasir Butt, who are serving two-year and one-year ban respectively, for allegedly underperforming in World Squash Team Championship held in Germany.

Mehboob featured in one match only during the event and lost it to Morten Sorenson, a 32-year-old former pro from Copenhagen who last played for his country in the 1999 championship.

Morten defeated the 19- year-old 3-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-8.
