PESHAWAR: The government should ensure adequate supply of food and non-food items to Jalozai camp where internally displaced persons of Khyber Agency desperately need them, President Khyber Welfare Committee (KWC) Daud Khan Afridi on Wednesday. Talking to reporters at Peshawar Press Club here, Mr Afridi also demanded provision of blankets to the Jalozai camp IDPs, saying they were exposed to the elements after the start of winter due to damaged tents.
He complained that IDPs’ repeated calls for food, non-food items, blankets and new tents had fallen on deaf ears, fearing thing might turn out to be critical for the people in distress as the winter progressed.
Accompanied by other members of the committee, Mr Afridi said over 6,00 families had already been registered at Jalozai camp, while hundreds of families lived with relatives or in rented buildings.
He said the situation in Bara was so tense due to military operation against militants that the locals, who stayed put, would have to quit the area shortly.
The KWC president praised former minister for environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi for helping IDPs register themselves with the camp and arrange Nadra mobile teams, access free medical camps and benefit from the Benazir Income Support Programme.
He alleged that Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Fata leaders collected millions of rupees from different NGOs, charity organisations and political agent of Khyber agency in the name of Jalozai camp residents and spent them on their political activities, and demanded the party chief, Imran Khan, to take action against the culpable people.
