LARKANA, Oct 20: Leaders of different political parties have pointed out that voter lists prepared by Nadra are full of errors and anomalies and urged the Election Commission to extend date for their verification.

At an open forum at Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto memorial library on Thursday, Sindh National Front leaders Syed Mohammad Ibrahim Shah and Habibullah Mahisar said the SNF vice-chairman had written letters to the commission about Nadra's lists, which were full of errors.

They said that hundreds of voters were missing from the lists, particularly in PS-37 (Ratodero). Around 30,000 duplicate votes had been incorporated in the current lists which needed verification, they said.

They pointed out incorrect entries of wrong caste and spelling mistakes of local Sindhi names. The names of voters of Deh Sharifpur were included in union council Mirpur in Ratodero while more than 100 names of voters of union council Behman were entered in Deh Doso Dara's list, they said.

PML-Q leaders Ghulam Mujtaba Samtio, former taluka nazim of Bakrani and Bashir Ahmed Junejo, former nazim of Dokri called for deleting duplicate voters from the lists, which they said, were littered with such entries.

They underscored the need for creating awareness among people about the voter lists process to bring maximum names on the lists.

PPP leaders Dr Sakina Gaad, Ms Kaneez Sakina, Khair Mohammad Shaikh and Bakrat Shiakh demanded securing services of female volunteers to make verify names of voters because women were reluctant to converse with male members of verifying staff in the absence of their men.

They said that names of voters of union council-9 were erroneously added to the lists of Rehmatpur and Waleed mohalls. In union council-8 of Larkana city, only 200 out of 800 voters had been put on lists, he said.

Sono Khan Baloch, provincial election commissioner, admitted that Nadra lists were full of errors and said that more than 10 million votes had been added to lists without verification during elections of 2008.

It was done deliberately and the people involved in the incorrect lists preparation would face action, he said.

He said the election commission would consider extending date for verification when it felt its need in certain areas. The lists the election commission had received from Nadra contained block-wise errors, he said.

He asked the participants of the forum to receive photo stat copies of voter lists after getting them verified and added the process would be finalised till March 2012.

He said the commission was in touch with mobile companies to make verification through SMS. It would help the commission to speed up rectification of errors in the voters list, he said.
