Wapda maintain winning streak
KARACHI: Left-handed batsman Ali Azmat slammed century in each innings against Sialkot to help Wapda maintain their winning streak in the Faysal Bank Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Division I on Friday.
Ali, who scored 101 in the first innings, remained undefeated with 106 as Wapda eased to their fourth victory of the competition by five wickets at the Jinnah Stadium. The 32-year-old Ali laced his 116-ball knock with 13 fours and dominated the unfinished sixth-wicket partnership of 94 with fellow left-hander Bilal Khilji who contributed 33.
Wapda now have a 12-point advantage over second-placed reigning champions Habib Bank who have 21 points following their three-day against Islamabad on Wednesday.
Left-arm paceman Sadaf Hussain continued his tremendous form with a 12-wicket haul as Rawalpindi sneaked to a 25-run win against Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The 21-year-old Sadaf followed his 6-55 in the first innings with 6-113 as ZTBL were dismissed for 229 after resuming the final day of the four-day fixture at 37-2. Wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider was the highest run-getter for ZTBL with 76.
Sadaf, who claimed 15 wickets for 154 runs against Habib Bank last week, is the leading wicket-taker this season 43 first-class scalps in just four games.
National Bank, meanwhile, had to settle for just three points after Faisalabad held on for a draw at the Iqbal Stadium. The bankers enforced the follow on after bowling the hosts for 376, but Faisalabad battled through 49 overs to reach 108-5 in their second innings.
