LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 5: A wildlife team arrested a birds’ smuggler and seized over two dozen precious birds from him in Naurang town, an official said on Saturday.
The official said divisional forest officer, wildlife, Bannu Division, Khan Malook was tipped off about the possible smuggling of black, brown and red legged partridges and other precious birds from Naurang area.
“Upon that a special team headed by range officer, wildlife, Lakki Abdul Rehman was formed to foil the birds’ smuggling bid,” he said, adding the wildlife officials arrested a man identified as Mohammad Rafiq of Bannu and recovered 28 birds from his possession. “A case was registered against the birds’ smuggler under wildlife act,” he added.
Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested two outlaws, including a female proclaimed absconder, in Tajori and Naurang localities of the district.
CATTLE SMUGGLING: The Serai Gambila police foiled a cattle smuggling bid and arrested four people along with animals.
“A police party led by ASI Abdul Saboor recovered four cows from a pick-up truck on third canal road leading to the frontier tribal region,” a source said, adding the cows were being transported to the tribal area illegally.
He said the police arrested the cattle smugglers Moha-mmad Noor, Wali Dad, Abdul Majid and Shafiqullah, and registered case against them.
SCOUT COMPETITION: Students of Government Centennial Model High School Lakki on Saturday won the scouting competition, which was part of the annual district high and higher secondary schools tournament.
Two schools -- GCMHS Lakki and GHSS Abakhel -- participated in the scouting competition held in the centennial model high school. The scouts of both schools had set up camps by pitching tents in the ground of the school. They had decorated the camps with colourful banners.—Correspondent
