LAHORE, Dec 9: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president Nawaz Sharif on Friday defended his recent political decisions and said all these were according to the need of the hour.

Talking to a private TV channel here, the former prime minister said he learnt from the past (mistakes) that institutions should be strengthened.

In an apparent allusion to the likely confrontation between the executive and the Supreme Court over the Memogate issue, Sharif said all institutions should respect each other and avoid clash. He said poor performance of the incumbent parliament, especially non-implementation of its resolutions (by the executive), made him to move the Supreme Court in Memogate case.

The PML-N chief is scheduled to address his first planned public meeting in Larkana, stronghold of the PPP, on Saturday (today).

A team of senior party leaders led by Punjab Assembly deputy speaker Rana Mashhud Ahmed Khan is stationed in Larkana making arrangements for the meeting and seeking support of nationalist forces that are opposed to the PPP.
