Why does Dawn.com always portrays India in bad light. I have seen several of Dawn's slideshow where India's backwardness is tried to be shown.
Why are the strengths not displayed instead?

Why Indians are always criticizing about showing the true face of India??? Dawn have shown an other side of India as well..All you need is to open your hearts and minds towards that.Just accept that fact that India still is the poor country..It is improving but dont be panic when anybody talks about that issue, its a reality, face it.Slum dog millionaire was a true side of India but Indians couldn't face that reality and criticised that too.Now please do change your arrogant behaviour.

We Pakistani admit that we have our own issues but we never criticize others that why they are saying that Pakistan has these issues. While Indian friends dont like to listen about what they are like they rather try to pretend and tell teh world what they are not.As simple as that. One should always keep taht in mind.

We all see what we are focused upon. I believe India, Pakistan, and several other countries have a long way to go, when it comes to the basics. If we keep thinking and doing what we have always done, the future is likely to bring more of the same, unless influenced by stronger external forces.

It is the duty of newspaper to publish facts ,whether it is bad or good . Some indian say why Dawn shows such photos and ask for same in pak ? Dawn news showed the news of Terrorist Ajmal kasab who was a pakistani . Dawn news showed the news of the Great terrorist Osama Bin Laden who has hiding in pak . So ,It is rational . Thankfully we are used to such things and we don't hide such things like china and N.Korea . we are happy to show our slum dogs and show our greats like Gandhi and Buddha. We are open to all and that's why we enjoy such soft power .

incorrect! look at Indian news papers and see how little you would find about Pakistan. Is that because we want to keep Pakistan happy? No, its because, Indian government does not ban Pakistani news media in our country and we are precisely aware of how Pakistan is doing and in what perspective CNN or BBC talks about Pakistan and on what issues they look forward to India. That is why Indian news papers report about China, which serves as an inspiration. Conversely, this same reason explains the curiosity of Pakistani people for India. Pakistani people should also know about what is wrong in India but they should also have a fair understanding what is driving India forward and so fast. However, it is to the benefit of the politicians who want to keep explain off their laziness by featuring a side of India that makes their people feel at ease with their situation. Some of the Pakistani peers I have talked to are not even sure who won the Indo-Pak wars, it is a shame what these politicians are doing to the common people, but open your eyes and look around, it is a different world.

haha! India is a democracy and a functioning one. and we precisely know what India is.. But Pakistani politicians would not feel too good releasing the true picture of India to the people who are already restive with their declining economy..for most people I know of in Pakistan, India is a Hindu state and Pakistan and India "barabar hai"..If that were true then INDIA would not have had the positive half of global attention and leave Pakistan with the bitter half....

Now a days, the whole world is interested in India and its affairs, be it poverty or prosperity. Why not Pakistan and it's media? After all Pakistan is India's neighbour. In fact Pakistan is more interested in our internal matters, rather than their own. Thank you, Pakistan and it's media, It is good to have so many well wishers.

A picture is worth a thousand words and Dawn is only publishing what is a reality. That, despite Indias progress, 500 million people are still mired in abject poverty is not lost to Pakistanis even though some Indians may be loathe to admit it lest they be seen as lesser equals in the West. If India truly wishes to attain super power status it will have to acknowledge the existence of this poverty otherwise it will only be a super power built on a deck of cards.

The photos were beautiful, and makes us realise how the poor are living in India.
However the title - 'without a roof over their heads - India', was not good, and seemed as if the author was gloating over poverty in India.

People here are more concerned about MY Pakistan and MY INDIA. I think if you guys are so much concerned then you should better start thinking how to enhance lives of these people.
The photographer/newspaper just highlighted the facts. People in the picture don't care much about the slum images of country but are more into being provided shelter/warm places to pass the freezing nights.

I was in India last year. Delhi is a nice place. But I cannot say the same thing about other cities. Despite all the problems Pakistan is going through right now, I must say that average Pakistani is still lot better off than average Indian.

Grow up folks. The topic for this photo essay is poverty in India, period. Anything beyond that (why not Pakistan, etc) is beyond the point. Just wake up to the helplessness in these peoples eyes and ask yourself what you can do about it.

From where u got this idea "india still has the worst poverty line as compare to Pakistan" ? India's per capita income is higher than that of Pakistan. Look at the currency values. One indian rupee can buy almost 2 Pakistani rupees. Take any measureable index and India is ahead of Pakistan. You are one of many Pakistanis who console themselves by feeling based things that there is more poverty in India as you can see it....while the facts are just opposite to your feelings.
There are homeless people in USA and Europe as well. India is like an open book and in the state of transition and all this is part of that transition.

dude there are 1.2 bn people here. And out of it 500 million are below poverty line. And that also means 700 are above poverty line. And we have lot more richer people than entire population of pak. And we are taking steps to bring those 500mn people out of poverty.

If this the case then I would portray all U pakistanis as beggars living in nation which begs daily bread an expenses

Regarding the comments of the 6th picture, what is the need to mention the subject as "elderly HINDU man". You can just mention as "elderly man" this would be more appropriate. But this is a pakistani news website, what more I can expect from them, other than discrimination of other religion.

@Rito: O really??? are you people allowed to watch Pakistani channels??? do you watch Pakistani news and entertainment channels??? well the answer is a definite NO..because Indian goverment doent allow Pakistani channels in their country where as in Pakistan your channels are allowed...so better have a correction here..This is India's goverment and their politician who dont want their people to know about Real Pakistan. They have banned Pakistani channels and only propagate negative things about Pakistan wether its print media or electronic..This is the dilemma of most of our Indian friends they just try to tell that its Pakistani people who are unaware of India and why its moving so fast ...well friends..Pakistani know WHY and How India is moving AHEAD..Its Indians who are more curious about Pakistan and its people not PAKISTANIs...thats why you guys never miss a chance to pass a negative comment about Paksitan wether you know the matter or not..You better get a ticket and visit Paksitan. Then you 'll know Paksitani are very open hearted n open minded people..they didnt even banned your channels in spite of all bad situation.

Without denying the fact that poverty is an issue in India and there are homeless people, i want to say that these pics don't exactly show this scenario. These people are not homeless; they are sitting outside because its cold and the cant lit the fire inside their homes. I request the reporter if he wants to report poverty in India, do it but atleast put some authentic pictures.

The whole point is that the progress India is making and milestones it has achieved are phenomenal! Of course we still have lot of poverty and subsequent consequences - homelessness, high infant mortality etc but with increasing affluence and drive that Indians have, we will overcome and take everyone on board this huge tidal wave of success and development.
Development is not anyone's privilege, any country or set of people can achieve if you have the right fundamentals and sense of direction.

Regardless of the motives of Dawn, and the feeling of superiority by most Pakistanis Poverty in India is prevalent, despite recent strides taken. Housing in urban areas is a big issue with millions of rural people flooding the cities in search of jobs. Agriculture seldom makes people rich, and hides underemployment. India has ways to go, and will surely make it better for its people over time.
