RAWALPINDI, Jan 9: Violent students marched on city roads, attacked and damaged office of the executive district officer (EDO) education and its record in a latest display of anger against faulty result of intermediate examination in Attock on Monday.
Several hundred students gathered at the Government Degree College Attock and later marched to Kutchery Chowk.
Eye witnesses said the angry students were chanting slogans against the education department officials and government as they marched towards the education office and later attacked it.
They ransacked the office, smashed window-panes, damaged office furniture and threw the office record out on the road.
The police had to charge the protesters with batons to disperse them; however the protesters blocked the road and forced the shopkeepers to pull down their shutters.
At this stage, the protesting students and shopkeepers had a brawl over closing of shops which resulted in injuries to some students, though none was removed to hospital.
As the protesters turned violent, the reinforcement of police was called on the scene to control them, who then scattered into the link roads.
The deputy superintendent of police and other senior police officers went into a negotiation-session with protesting students to convince and make them disperse peacefully.
The student leaders warned the police that they would stage violent protests on daily basis, if any police case was registered against them.
Later, Principal of the college, Ghulam Mustafa held a meeting with students and acknowledged that they had been wronged.
He also assured the students that he would convey their concerns to the provincial government.
