SUKKUR: Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi, also known as Raja Saein, was appointed the eight Pir Pagara on Thursday, DawnNews reported.
Rashidi, who is the eldest son of Late Pir Syed Mardan Shah II, was elected at a meeting of the Caliphs of the Hur community.
The four sons of late Pir Pagara , Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi, Pir Sadruddin Shah Rashdi, Pir Ali Gohar Shah Rashdi and Pir Hizbullah Shah Rashdi were candidates for becoming new Pir of the Jamaat.
The Hurs are a Sufi Muslim community from Sind. The Pir Pagara, their spiritual leader, is appointed by the Caliphs of the Hurs. There are 16 Caliphs, out of which 15 are in Pakistan, while the 16th resides in India. The Caliphs are responsible for managing the affairs of the community.
Pir Syed Mardan Shah, the former Pir Pagara, passed away in London on Tuesday at the age of 83. He was laid to rest in his ancestral town Pir Jo Goth on Thursday. He left behind a wife, four sons, three daughters and many grandchildren.
