ISLAMABAD, Jan 13: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s office denied a report on Friday that he called the British High Commissioner in Islamabad this week, expressing concerns that the army could mount a coup and asking London to support his government.

The prime minister’s office simply said Mr Gilani had “not spoken to the British High Commissioner in this regard”.
The British High Commission also rejected the report.

A statement issued by the spokesperson for the commission said: “The story about a recent phone call between UK High Commissioner Adam Thomson and Prime Minister Gilani is untrue.

“There has been no such call,” the statement added.—Agencies
