KOHAT, Jan 14: The Election Commission of Pakistan has directed its district offices to complete data entry of electoral rolls and registration of citizens till February 5, sources said.

Officials at the divisional election commissioner's office, Kohat, told this correspondent on Saturday that they had been asked to complete the data entry of electoral rolls by Feb 5 next besides facilitating issuance of children's registration certificates by deploying vans in different areas of the district.

They said that the van staff would work without weekly off from 8am till 7pm for about a month.

The sources said that according to the orders, the Election Commission offices should install boards and banners for giving information about registration for convenience of the people.

The officials said that they wouldwork from 8am till 10pm in the offices till Feb 5 and all leaves of staff had been cancelled with immediate effect.

Similarly, the weekly off on Sundays had also been cancelled till Feb 5.

They said that the second shift in the offices would start at 2pm and continue till 10pm.

The government will pay one extra salary to the staff for the completion of this data entry project, the officials said.

ARMS STOLEN: Unidentified thieves took away a Kalashnikov and two other guns from the house of former district nazim and PML-N's provincial officebearer Malik Asad in cantonment area here on the night between Friday and Saturday.

The cantonment police said that Zahir Gul, secretary of Mr Asad, told them that he and his other companions wentto sleep after the midnight on Friday and in the morning (Saturday) they found that somebody had broken lock of the watchman's room and taken away a Kalashnikov, a 12-bore repeater and shotgun.

The police have registered the case.

When asked about the incident, Mr Gul said that he only knew about the theft of arms and the former nazim would tell about anything, if found missing, on his return from Islamabad.

Crime incidents are on the rise in the cantonment and the city from the last few months.

In a recent incident, the dacoits looted the house of Dr Shahid Sardar, located close to the house of Mr Asad. Dr Sardar was in the US when the incident occurred. Surprisingly, the two houses were located at a stone's throw from the police checkpost.
