ATTOCK, Jan 14: Doctors of the entire district staged a protest on Saturday against kidnapping of a fellow doctor.

Medical officer (MO) of tehsil headquarters hospital Hazro was kidnapped which sparked unrest among the doctors' community. However they attended patients in the emergency department of hospitals.

Dr Ahsan Bahadur was kidnapped by some armed persons from his residence inside the hospital's residential area on late Friday night.

On receiving information, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Attock chapter convened an emergency meeting under the supervision of President PMA Attock district Col (retired) Dr Aslam Marwat to condemn the incident and to adopt a strategy.

Later, doctors, paramedical staff of district headquarters hospital, THQ hospital Hazro, other hospitals and medical institutions gathered outside the DHQ hospital. They were holding placards and chanting slogans against the kidnapping. The rally reached the district police headquarters after passing through AttockKamra road. The doctors said that the law and order situation was worsening day by day due to ineffective security measures and no one was safe.

It was another incident of kidnapping as police were yet to trace the unknown persons involved in kidnapping of a local medical specialist Col (Rtd) Mohammad Hayat some three months ago. 'We will continue our protest and will not attend any patient except in emergency until and unless the abducted doctor is recovered.' They have demanded the Punjab government to take immediate notice of the prevailing alarming situation.
