KARACHI, Jan 15: An activist of the All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation was shot dead in a Malir locality near Jamia Millia, police said on Sunday.

They said the incident took place late on Saturday night within the remit of the AlFalah police station on Jamia Millia Road near the Government Girls High School, where unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on 25-year-old Shah Nawaz and escaped.

They said the young man was said to be passing through the area when he was targeted by the assailants.

The victim suffered a fatal bullet wound in chest and died.

The police said the victim was a brother of a Muttahida Qaumi Movement worker and was himself a worker of the APMSO, the student wing of the MQM.

This past week at least seven people were gunned down within the jurisdiction of the Al-Falah police station. Following the killing of three people on Friday, police authorities had suspended the SHO of the AlFalah police station.

Till late on Sunday night, no FIR about the killing was lodged at the Al-Falah police station.
