GUJAR KHAN: Power outages in the areas surrounding Gujar Khan and Sohawa tehsils have exceeded 16 hours, affecting students the most, Dawn has learnt.
Consequently the residents are faced with multiple problems. Four to five-hour long continuous loadshedding around the sunset forces the resident to grapple in the darkness and the houses, mosques and streets plunge into darkness and when electricity is restored after 9.00 pm, they are shocked to have another spell of power outage just after an hour which continues for an indefinite period of time, narrated Raja Bashir of Negial village.
“The exams of students are approaching and they suffer great hardships as they are unable to study. It seems the ruling elite wants to deprive children of the poor of opportunities they may grab by burning the midnight oil,” said Raja Zafar who dwells in the jurisdiction of Sohawa sub-division of Iesco.
“The PPP-led coalition government has miserably failed in improving the power generation system of the country and now millions of rupees are being lavishly spent on TV advertisements to tell fabulous achievements related to power generation.
“While contrary to this, we all know that the rental power drama played havoc with the revenue and economy of the country,” said Mirza Asghar, a local.
He added that the poor workers were being rendered jobless due to the wrong policies of rulers and the false claims of bringing prosperity in country was just like rubbing salt into the masses’ wounds, he added.
