KARACHI, Jan 20: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was killed and his aide wounded in an attack in Orangi Town in the early hours of Friday, police said.

The police added that Arif Nabi, 25, and Tahir Sarwar, 27, were sitting near Qatar Hospital where they were targeted by armed men riding a motorcycle.

Both the men suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital where Arif was pronounced dead on arrival, the officials said.

They said that Tahir was referred to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

He had suffered three bullet wounds and was said to be in a serious condition, according to the police.

Orangi Town SHO said that both the men were workers of Muttahida’s Unit No 132.

Police were not sure about the nature of Arif’s work, but said Tahir was a property dealer.

Tension and fear gripped parts of Orangi Town No 1, where both the victims resided, with closure of shops and other businesses following the killing.

An FIR pertaining to the incident had not been lodged till Friday evening.

Shot dead A young man was found shot dead near a cinema within the remit of the Kalri police station in the early hours of Friday, police said.

They added that a pistol and a motorcycle without a registration plate were also found with the body.

The police said the victim had suffered three bullet wounds. His body was found near Crown Cinema, Mauripur Road, they added.

The officials identified the victim as 30-year-old Nawaz, son of Yaqoob, with the help of an identity card found at the crime-scene.

Some complainants in robbery cases also identified the young man, who they said had robbed them, the Kalri SHO said.

It seemed that the man had been shot by his accomplices over some dispute or by someone he might have tried to rob, the SHO added.

The police said the victim hailed from Gujranwala. His heirs took away the body for burial in his hometown, they added.

Body found The body of a young man was found at a deserted place within the remit of the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station on Friday morning.

They said there were some injury marks on the body, which was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.
