THIS is in response to the letter 'British dental course' (Dec 27). The writer makes critical comments about the MSc in experimental oral pathology, the quality of its teaching and research projects, and the course management.

As the title and course literature clearly state, this degree is geared towards students entering a research career. It is not designed to teach diagnostic oralpathology, as the writer suggests.

The teaching of this course is of the highest academic standards and is assessed annually to maintain quality. Our staff has many years of teaching experience and the majority holds Higher Education Academy, United Kingdom, qualifications.

Research projects are embedded within the Institute of Dentistry, which has been assessed as of the highest international standard. The projects are an opportunity for students to gain practical research experience and inevitably some students achieve more than others. In many cases, our best students contribute to papers in prestigious scientific journals.

Finally, our project supervisors are dedicated professionals who go to great lengths to guide students through each stage of their projects.

Students arefree, and indeed encouraged, to discuss any concerns or difficulties with their course organiser at any time.

We would encourage any potential students who are interested in this course or who have any concerns about it to contact n.vehra@gmul.ac.uk
