TIMERGARA, Jan 21: Workers of People's Students' Federation (PSF), Lower Dir, on Saturday took out a rally in front of Timergara Press Club against the district administration for hoisting Awami National Party flags on the building of district secretariat and government offices in Balambat.
Dozens of PSF workers led by provincial leader Alam Zeb Utmani and district president Fazal Hussain marched on Balambat-Timergara Road before staging the rally.
PSF leaders said ANP flags had been hoisted on government buildings, including district secretariat and DCO offices, to mark the death anniversaries of party leaders Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Khan Abdul Wali Khan.
They said ANP leaders and workers had totally hijacked the district administration and regretted that the Lower Dir DCO denied PSF and PPP activists the permission to hold a function on January 5to observe the birth anniversary of party chairman Zulfikar Bhutto.
'We are part of the government but the administration in Lower Dir discriminate against us unlike ANP workers, who are getting all benefits,' Mr Utmani complained, adding that the DCO was become a mere puppet of ANP leaders.
PSF leaders said hoisting of ANP flags on government buildings was condemnable and the government should take notice of it for action against the culpable officials.
They also demanded early transfer of Lower Dir DCO.
Meanwhile, like other parts of the province, ANP observed death anniversaries of its leaders Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Khan Abdul Wali Khan in Lower Dir, too, on Saturday.
A function in this respect was held at the district council hall, Balambat, where ANP workers showed up in large numbers.Provincial ministers Haji Hidayatullah, Wajid Ali Khan, ANP Dir president Hussain Shah Yousufzai and general secretary Ayub Khan addressed the function, while many paid tribute to the two ANP leaders by reciting poems and singing songs.
Mr Hidayatullah said ANP had fulfilled all promises it made with people before forming government. He said ANP government had to its credit restoration of peace, end to the plans of building Kalabagh dam, re-naming of the province, grant of autonomy to the province and completion of work on mega development projects.
'We have done what we had promised. I am sure that the people will vote us to power once again,' he said.
Mr Wajid said the government was offering loan to poor people in the province at low markup. He said the province had got autonomy thanks to the struggle of the ANP government.
