PESHAWAR, Jan 23: Tribal Electric Supply Company (Tesco) and Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) officers and workers on Monday observed complete strike in the capital city against appointment of chief executives to power distribution companies (Discos). Pakistan Wapda Hydroelectric Central Labour Union members staged a sit-in at Wapda House and took out a rally against the said appointments, while activists of Pesco/Tesco officers association boycotted work to show solidarity with the union.

Shouting slogans against the government, protestors demanded early withdrawal of the chief executives’ appointment to Faisalabad, Multan and Islamabad Discos. They said the appointments had created unrest among Discos employees.

Protestors also complained the board of directors’ alleged interference in the respective Discos’ matters and demanded corrective steps by the relevant authorities.—Bureau Report
