PARACHINAR, Jan 26: Twenty-two militants were killed and as many security personnel injured in a gunfight in Jogi area of central Kurram Agency on Thursday, official sources said.

The clash took place when militants attacked security forces’ positions, the sources said.

Security forces backed by heavy artillery returned the fire and claimed to have killed 22 militants.

The claim could not be verified from independent sources.

Authorities said a day earlier that they had secured the Jogi area.

The sources said that security forces were facing difficulties because of tough terrain and chilly weather.

Several militant groups are reported to have set up bases in the area.
