Car lifter held

TAXILA, Jan 28: The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) arrested a member of vehicle lifting gang and recovered a hijacked vehicle on Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) on Saturday.

Sector Commander M-1, SSP Mohammad Ali while briefing newsmen here at the NHMP camp Burhan said that acting on a tip off, NHMP officials arrested Khawar Hameed, stated to be a member of vehicle lifters gang and recovered a hijacked taxi car (RIU-600) lifted from Rawat. He said that the accused posing himself as passenger booked the yellow cab and intoxicated its driver on the way. When he became unconscious, he threw his body in the bushes and tried to smuggle the vehicle to Peshawar.

He said that during preliminary interrogation, he confessed to be a member of inter-district gang of vehicle hijackers who lifted taxis from Rawalpindi and Islamabad posing them as passengers. The accused was handed over to local police. — Correspondent
