KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wassan said that President Asif Ali Zardari had approved a package worth Rs5 billion for provision of weapons, equipment and vehicles to Sindh Police.

Speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of ‘Madadgar 15’ help centre at Garden police headquarters here on Tuesday, Wassan said the package would help improve the performance of the force.

The newly inaugurated help centre would be linked with the command and control system of the central police office, and would able to respond within 5 to 7 minutes of receiving information of any incident, said the home minister.

Wassan added that the government was also working on a “Witness Protection Law”, which was necessary to prosecute criminals in the courts, and hoped that it would be finalized within due course of time.
