LAHORE, Jan 31: The Punjab Health Department has reinforced dengue epidemic control regulations 2011 again in the province which will remain effective till Nov 30 this year.

According to a handout issued on Tuesday, under the regulations, owners of all private properties, houses, factories, mills and tyre godowns will be responsible for addressing the causes for the growth of dengue mosquito.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of Health Department has stressed upon the citizens not to let water accumulate in their houses besides disposal of broken utensils, tyres and plastic bottles.

They should also ensure the repair and maintenance of water pipes, tanks, room coolers and air conditioners as leakage of water might result in the growth of the dengue mosquito.

The spokesman further said that cleanliness and larviciding of ponds, fountains and swimming pools should be undertaken to prevent the breeding of dengue mosquito.

He said under the rules and regulations, health inspectors can undertake checking of different premises and in case breeding spots of dengue mosquito were found, the owners of property will have to bear the expenses for their elimination.

The spokesman said owners of educational institutions are duty bound to undertake mosquito spray and fogging in the school premises for the elimination of dengue mosquito. He said that educational institutions will play an active role for the promotion of public awareness against dengue and the students will also take part in the drive to apprise the people about preventive measures against dengue through door to door visits.

He made it clear that under the Punjab dengue epidemic control regulations 2011, it is binding upon all institutions and citizens to cooperate with the health and other departments concerned for the eradication of dengue.
