LAHORE, Jan 31: A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court seeking disqualification of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his son MNA Hamza Shahbaz, besides a high treason case against them, allegedly for being responsible for the death of innocent people caused by spurious medicine provided by the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).

The petition filed through Advocate Sardar Khurram Latif Khosa, son of Governor Latif Khosa, alleged that Hamza Shahbaz was supervising Al-Falah Pharma Company that supplied substandard medicine Alfagril to the PIC.

It said the chief minister and his son had not only invested capital in the firm but also controlled and supervised it. The firm, it said, was also supplying low-quality anesthesia medicines to all hospitals in the province. The license of the company had also been expired, it added.

The petitioner said the chief minister, with connivance of his son and Al-Falah Pharma, subverted the Constitution, therefore, was exposed to high treason under Article 6 of the Constitution.

He said the respondents, without any prequalification, tenders, even without getting approval from the federal government or the Federal Drug Agency, allowed manufacturing of substandard tablets for cardiac patients.

He said the respondent company purchased substandard raw material from Lohari Gate for manufacturing medicines instead of using imported ingredients.

The petitioner, therefore, prayed that the respondents be declared disqualified and proceeded against under Article 6, or charged with high treason, under the Constitution.

He also sought court directions to place the names of the respondents on the exit control list (ECL).

Justice Umar Ata Bandial will hear the petition on Wednesday (today).
