LAHORE, Feb 1: The suspected drugs reaction claimed lives of another three patients on Wednesday, raising toll to 122.

Of these, Anwar Bibi, 70, died at Mayo Hospital while Pervaiz, 55, and Razia Bibi, 55, at Services Hospital.

A spokesman said 42 patients affected by reaction of PIC medicines had been discharged from various hospitals during last 24 hours after treatment.

He said a total of 330 patients were still admitted in various hospitals, including 54 in Jinnah Hospital, 22 in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 162 in Services Hospital, eight in Lahore General Hospital and 66 in Mayo Hospital. Moreover, three patients are under treatment in Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, and four in Shaikh Zayed Hospital Lahore.

The spokesman confirmed eight deaths of patients owing to drugs reaction during last 24 hours. Of them two patients died in Jinnah Hospital, three in Services Hospital and one each in Lahore General Hospital, Mayo and Ittefaq Hospital respectively, the spokesman added.

probe: A three-member police inquiry board probing the deaths of heart patients interrogated on Wednesday the Punjab Institute of Cardiology storekeeper and three others, a police source told Dawn.

The team headed by DIG Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema interrogated storekeeper Zulfiqar Ali and suppliers of medicines Tariq Mahmood and Muhammad Musharraf of Omer Trading Company and Yousaf, owner of a pharmacy company.
