ISLAMABAD: Iranian cultural week introducing traditional handicraft, photograph and poster exhibitions and music opened at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Thursday.

The minister for Information Firdaus Ashiq Awan flanked by the high ups from the Iranian Embassy including the Ambassador Ali Reza Hakikian inaugurated the cultural week. Three big galleries were dedicated to exhibits put up by the embassy.

Over a 100 coloured and black and white photographs covered different moments of development in Iran during the last 40 years.

From images of modern architecture springing up in the country and women working in factories as well as armed forces to mention some and contributing in progress of the country to processions, results/fruits of the revolution to the Imam Khomeini’s arrival to Iran and of music concerts, the display conserved all important milestones and events in the last four decades.

A lot more interesting for some was the display of over 40 or so panflexes accompanied with brief texts in Gallery 1 that captured impressions of the hidden layers of wars. These impressions preserved important technological warfare to photographs of important Islamic leaders meeting, reflections of Iran and Iraq war as well as events cherished by the Iranians.

Gallery 3 was dedicated to handicraft – hand printed table cloths, carved and kalam kari works on metal and ceramic pottery, rugs, a stall of kawa khana and literature dedicated to architecture, tourism and history of Iran and a book exhibition.

The Iranian cultural week will continue at the PNCA where artisans and musicians will take turns to enthrall their visitors with the meticulous art demonstrations on spot in the galleries and their traditional musical tunes.

Group Quranic recitations and Iranian film festival will also be part of the celebrations of the Iranian cultural week in the next coming days.
