HYDERABAD, Feb 3: A large number of doctors took out a procession from Sindh University old campus which terminated in a demonstration at the press club to press the health department for the acceptance of their demands.

The protest was organised by the Pakistan Medical Association's Sindh chapter, Doctors Action Committee and Awami Doctors Ittehad.

PMA leader Dr Pir Manzoor Ali, Dr Gulzar Jumani and Dr Rafique Qureshi said that they had launched a peaceful struggle for their demands.

They said the health department officials were not serious in solving their problems and warned if their demands were not accepted by Feb 5 they would stage hunger strike unto death in Karachi civil hospital from Feb 6, and later stage similar protests at all district headquarters.

They demanded that the decision of Sukkur bench of the Sindh High Court about grant of time-scale to doctors should be implemented and four-tier promotion formula should be enforced.-Bureau
