LAHORE, Feb 3: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has stopped a probe into the drugs scam following a strong resentment by the Punjab government and formation of a judicial commission.

"Since no one in the provincial government is ready to extend help in the probe and there has been a hue and cry over the FIA purview, we have decided not to investigate it further," an official of the agency told Dawn on Friday.

He said the doctors had threatened to go on strike when the agency took the Punjab Institute of Cardiology medical superintendent into custody, while the provincial government had directed all the departments concerned not to cooperate with the FIA.

He said under such circumstances how the agency could move ahead in investigation.
