ISLAMABAD: The Minister for Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar said on Monday that the country-wide loadshedding will come to an end Tuesday onwards.

Responding to various questions of legislators in the National Assembly, he said the issue of circular debt of Independent Power Producers (IPPs) will also be resolved within the next few days.

He said the people's government has so far added 3272 mw in the national grid. A number of reforms have also been introduced to resolve the power crisis in the country.

The line losses are being reduced persistently. Elaborating, he said during the year 2008-09 line losses were 21.1 per cent. During 2009-10 the line losses were 20.9 per cent and the losses were further reduced to 20.7 per cent during 2010-11.

The plan has been finalised to produce to 88,480 mw power in next 14 years, he said.

Presently, 14 hydro power projects with cumulative capacity of 5413 mw are being implemented by the private sector.

Replying to a question of Rana Mehmood ul Hassan, he said that a total of Rs 565.16 million has been collected by the Karachi Electricity Supply Company (KESC) since 2008 at the rate of Rs 35per month (domestic) and 60 pm (commercial) respectively.

The KESC has deposited a sum of Rs 39,451,690,216 as sales tax from October 2008 to December 2011, he said.

Replying to the question of Wasim Akhtar Sheikh, he said that the feasibility study of generating 405 mw power from coal has been completed. The MoU was signed by the Sindh government and China National Machinery import and export corporation (CMC).

As soon the financing is approved the project will be initiated.

Following surcharges are being levied on electricity consumers including Neelum-Jhelum surcharge 0.1 per kwh, 2 percent equalisation (EQ) surcharge, and 10 per cent late payment surcharge.
