KARACHI, Feb 7: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad directed the authorities on Tuesday to immediately stop allotment of plots and cash payments to undeserving people under the Lyari Resettlement Project, and directed the commissioner of Karachi to investigate measures taken by project officials during the last six months.

He issued these directives while presiding over a meeting at which affairs of the Lyari Expressway and Northern Bypass, including complaints of allotment of plots and payment to scores of undeserving people on political grounds, were also discussed.

Under the LRP, affected families were paid Rs50,000 and a plot each to build their homes. There were reports that recently thousands of plots were allotted and cash paid on political grounds in the name of the martyrs of the Karsaz tragedy.

Mr Ibad recalled that so far people under the LRP had been rehabilitated in a transparent manner and said this transparency would be maintained in the future. He said in this connection all complaints would be addressed.

Those present at the meeting besides the commissioner and the administrator of Karachi were officials of the planning and development, finance, National Highway Authority and other departments.
