LAHORE, Feb 8: James Harper produced a dazzling performance scoring all ten goals to enable Pakistan Army/Nadra to overpower Newage Cables 10-7 ½ in their Nurpur Polo Cup match here on Thursday.

The losers were playing with a half-goal handicap.

Harper hit two goals in the first chukker. But the half-goal handicap and one goal each by Shah Shamyl Alam and Santiago Mendivil kept the losing side 2 ½-2 ahead.

The second chukker saw full domination of both the foreign players when Harper earned five goals, his rival Mendivil fired two. But Harper’s fine stick work gave Army/Nadra a convincing 7-4 2 ½ lead at the end of the chukker. Continuing his good work, Harper contributed two more goals in the third chukker, while Mendivil added one as Army led the third chukker 9-5 ½.

In the final chukker, Newage Cables tried to stage a comeback but could only add two goals, one each through Shaukat Ali Malik and Mendivil. Harper had the last laugh, scoring his 10th goal, converting a 30-yard penalty hit in the dying minute.

Meanwhile, combined efforts by Raja Temur Nadeem and Ahmed Ali Tiwana helped Guard Filters overcome Diamond Paints 7 ½-4.

Vieri Antinori, an Argentine who fought hard for the losers by scoring all the four goals, hit the first two goals in the opening chukker. But Raja Temur recorded a field goal as the 1½ goal on handicap put the winners ahead by a slim margin of half goal (2 ½-2).In the second chukker, Ahmed Ali Tiwana kept the half-goal lead intact scoring his first through a 30-yard penalty hit, while Antinori fired his third.

The match tilted towards Guard Filters in the third chukker when Raja, Ahmed and Hamza Mawaz Khan all slammed one goal each to increase the lead to 6 ½-3.

In the final chukker, though Antinori earned his fourth goal, Ahmed’s scored his second goal to complete the win for Guard Filters.
